Yes. YES!

After some careful looking, I think I've improved a little at drawing noses! YES!

Self portrait, pencil, A3. I'm quite proud of this one; it's the only drawing I've done so far that looks most like me! I showed it to dad and he could see the resemblance. Having said that, there's still a ways to go for a better likeness. I tried this time to pay more attention to tone, especially around the nose.

And below is me fiddling around with pen, concentrating on the nose (so everything else- like the set of the eyes- looks downright wonky).

You should be proud! This drawing is definitely a portrait, I get a real sense of what you look like. The ones you posted yesterday were more like impressions.

I still wonder if you might darken the area under your nose more, especially given how dark the shadows are under your lip, but it's more of a nitpick than anything else. I think you did a really impressive turnaround. Great work!

Thank you, Kim! It's thanks to your pointing out the nose problem in the first place. Yes, I could darken the area under the nose further still...the shadows there were pretty pronounced.

Next, to try drawing someone (okay, ME, because no one else is around to sit for me) smiling. When people smile with teeth, I have a huge problem trying not to make them look ghoulish.

Gnaff. Envy. Envyyy. I am never capable of saying anything helpful on drawings, it's either all, "That's a stick figure, why are you showing it to me?" or "Get out of my sight, you ridiculously-talented person! I do not wish to implode from your awesome." This -- definitely provokes the latter from me. I like the mouth.

Gnaff = great word!

Thanks for your kind words, Thorn! [blush] I probably spend an inordinate amount of time on the lips, because out of all facial features they're my favourite to draw.
