Just some ideas floating around during my thesis and recent Scrabble daze, and one painting in progress. The painting's for Amy, one part of her birthday present...and I don't think she's been checking livejournal lately so I think it's safe to post it. ^^ If you are Amy, you shouldn't click on the link until after August 5th!

Really image heavy under the cut. ^^

In progress, acrylic on canvas. Just blocking in the colour. Part of the Bibbulmun Track in Perth, Western Australia. I've taken to turning the canvas upside down and painting based on my source photo that way; it forces me to look and capture the colour/compositional relationships more accurately.

Prodigal.
Marker, A3.
David's asked me to make up some sort of logo for the Father's Day play that my church is putting on. He's done the bulk of the pamphlets and other promotional things, but we're still lacking a logo. I fooled around with markers- trying for minimalism- and sent that to him and surprisingly, he liked it! So this is more development stuff.

Feetsies.
Pencil on paper, A3.
Just fiddling around with colour.

the big picture (sketch)

Some freerambling drawing. I was trying to condense my favourite places into the hill but I got tired of this quickly. I was probably hungry. XDDD

Chalk pastel on paper, A3.

I didn't quite get what I was after here because pastels are just so powdery and fiddly (lots of "aaaaaaaargh"-ing while drawing this!). I didn't dare try to scan this because of the residue it would leave. After a while I got sick of the fixative fumes. Oil pastel is much easier to use. >< I did like the floatiness that chalk pastels give though. Very much influenced by Wayne Thiebaud's perspective here, but not measuring up. XD

Hah! I don't usually listen to Full Metal Racket. This particular show was a special all-instrumental version (i.e. no screamy vocals). It took the best part of heavy metal- the instruments!- so I enjoyed listening to it. You would've liked it- lots of guitar shredding! I streamed the program here. There was some seriously nice stuff! It was the perfect painting music. Dream Theatre got a play midway through the program so I was happy. ^^

(Sorry about the double notification- I posted with the wrong account.)
