More sketches, this time trying to outline whole figures before adding detail, as per Kim's suggestion. I took the easy path by drawing my brother, who was in front of the Playstation. He's quite an animated player but he invariably settles back into familiar positions. Then I sat in front of a mirror and tried to draw myself.

Mon frere. He was quite funny: I left the sketchbook on the floor near him while I went to grab dinner and he was looking at it when I came back, game paused. "Who's that?" I asked him. And he sounded kinda pleased when he said, "It's me!"

"Do you like it?"

"Yes!"

Yeah, um, I gave up on drawing myself and drew hands instead. >_> I should try pencil because charcoal leaves lines when I erase bits and I can't rework the drawing. The body is too long; shoulders should be lower down seeing as I was leaning forward on my elbows and arms.

I use vine charcoal to outline, compressed to define. Is your hair really that long?

Ooh, I wasn't aware there were different sorts of charcoal. Just looked it up on Wiki- we seem to call it willow charcoal here and that's what I generally use. ^^ A charcoal pencil was used for the 2nd set (I take it that's compressed)- I'll try mixing it up another time. ^^

It appears longer there because the length of the body is wrong but it's fairly long- nearly touching my hips. ^^
